ConnecToledo Downtown Development Corporation is leading the work on creating a historic district in cooperation with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). On Friday, February 5, a virtual presentation was given and was attended by 60 property owners, real estate agents and community partners. What is a Historic District?
Historic districts are designated areas recognizing a group of buildings, properties or sites by one of the several entities on different levels as historically or architecturally significant.

Who decides the validity of a historic district?
Historic districts are designated by the National Park Service, under the umbrella of the United States Department of the Interior. ConnecToledo is working through the State Historic Preservation Organization/Ohio History Connection to achieve this designation.

What are the benefits of a historic district designation?
Local districts protect the investments of owners and residents, encourage better design, can result in a positive economic impact and the protection of local historic districts can enhance business recruitment potential.
