Summit Street to receive $10.5 million renovation

Toledo City Council approved the $10.5M renovation of Summit Street today at their meeting.  Improvements will be made from Lafayette Street to Jackson Street including replacement of a 150-year-old waterline. Pedestrians will soon experience new lighting, improved crosswalks, additional benches, and plantings. A new art installation by the Arts Commission will be installed in a park-like setting located between Adams and Madison. Motorists will appreciate more on-street parking spaces, making it easier to access dining and retail spaces.

Summit Street has nearly 5,000 employees in this corridor. Combined with current and future investment of $500M by private companies, Metroparks Toledo and the City of Toledo, this key street is being developed into the premiere roadway in downtown. The Renaissance Toledo Downtown Hotel is a nationally recognized 4 Star hotel. Promenade Park hosts thousands at its Friday evening summer concerts and is Toledo’s gathering place. Lucas County Commissioners have committed to the renovation of the SeaGate Convention Centre. The adjoining hotel to the convention center will also experience upcoming revitalization. The world-famous Toledo Mud Hens play a block away at Fifth Third Field and host post-game concerts at Hensville Park. And Owens Corning has their world headquarters at the southern end of the Summit Street corridor.

The Downtown Toledo Master Plan stated clearly to focus on Summit Street and we have. ConnecToledo has been engaged with the City of Toledo and ProMedica throughout the planning and design process. We will continue to champion investment, according to the Plan, advocate for critical key projects, and find resources to make these projects come to fruition.
