SAME Café Opens in Downtown Toledo Library

There’s a new restaurant in downtown Toledo, with an entirely new concept. The SAME (So All May Eat) Café has officially opened inside the Main Branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library. The Café operates on a participation-based model, meaning every guest has access to healthy food by contributing what they can through time, money or produce.

Offering a daily rotating menu of two salads, two soups and two pizzas, the Café always includes a gluten-free and vegetarian option. The menu is made with fresh local produce. There are no set menu prices, the offerings are funded by donations of time, produce and money from guests and supporters. It is SAME Café’s belief that “everyone, regardless of economic status, deserves the chance to eat healthy food while being treated with dignity.”

After a seven-month renovation, the Café now occupies a 1,640 square foot space on the main level of the Main Library. This is the second SAME Café location. The first opened in Denver, Colorado in 2006, and is the longest running nonprofit restaurant in the country.

SAME Café will be open Monday – Friday from 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM at 325 N Michigan Ave. If you are interested in volunteer opportunities, email volunteer@samecafetoledo.org.
